For decades, India has been giving the fashion world some of the most talented and creative designers. Ever since the 1960s, acclaimed fashion figures like Ritu Kumar and Bhanu Athaiya have been transforming the face of Indian fashion and paving the way for generations to come. Their legacy continues, and more and more rising stars from India are taking over the fashion scene. Here are some of the most promising Indian fashion designers that are bound to set trends in the future.

1.Priyanka Ella Lorena Lama

This incredibly talented 25-year-old is already compelling fashion lovers with her charming pieces. In 2015, she presented her collection for the first time at Lakme Fashion Week with her label p.e.l.l.a. Her style is inspired by nature and simplicity. She doesn’t aspire for perfection but rather emphasizes natural beauty. This can also be seen in her use of light, silky fabrics and soft colors

 

2.Kanika Goyal

By the time she established her own label in 2014, Kanika Goyal was already an experienced designer. She spent her building years working for big brands, like Prada and Bibhu Mohapatra and developing her style into what it is now – “provocative minimalism”. She combines luxurious materials with urban designs, creating a contrast that she constantly builds on. Her pre fall 2016 collection best illustrates this contrast by featuring asymmetrical shapes and metallic shades, accompanied with embellished details.

3.Tarun Tahiliani

One of the prominent Indian fashion designers, Tarun Tahiliani significantly influenced the Indian fashion scene. He founded his boutique Ensemble in 1987 and was the first Indian designer to present his pieces at Milan Fashion Week. Tahiliani’s style mixes traditional Indian garments with modern details, creating artistic pieces that are irresistible to many, including the British heiress Jemima Khan, who chose his design for her wedding dress.

Mendel and Halston, before establishing his famous label in 2008. The best representatives of his prestigious style are his long, lavish evening dresses that provide flattering silhouettes. His costumes have appeared on pages of many fashion magazines, including Forbes, Vogue, and Marie Claire.

7.Masaba Gupta

The youngest in our choice of Indian up-and-coming stars, Masaba Gupta promises a bright future in fashion. Born in 1989, Gupta is famous for adding a modern twist to traditional Indian drapes. Modern prints and designs combined with conventional garments captivated many and pushed her right on top. She is also noted for her use of cotton and muslin which results in unique outfits that ensured her numerous awards.
